Homotopy Theory of Associative Rings

چکیده

A kind of unstable homotopy theory on the category of associative rings (without unit) is developed. There are the notions of fibrations, homotopy (in the sense of Karoubi), path spaces, Puppe sequences, etc. One introduces the notion of a quasi-isomorphism (or weak equivalence) for rings and shows that similar to spaces the derived category obtained by inverting the quasiisomorphisms is naturally left triangulated. Also, homology theories on rings are studied. These must be homotopy invariant in the algebraic sense, meet the Mayer-Vietoris property and plus some minor natural axioms. To any functor X from rings to pointed simplicial sets a homology theory is associated in a natural way. If X = GL and fibrations are the GL-fibrations, one recovers KaroubiVillamayor’s functors KVi, i > 0. If X is Quillen’s K-theory functor and fibrations are the surjective homomorphisms, one recovers the (non-negative) homotopy K-theory in the sense of Weibel. Technical tools we use are the homotopy information for the category of simplicial functors on rings and the Bousfield localization theory for model categories. The machinery developed in the paper also allows to give another definition for the triangulated category kk constructed by Cortiñas and Thom [5]. The latter category is an algebraic analog for triangulated structures on operator algebras used in Kasparov’s KK-theory. CONTENTS

Hochschild Cohomology and Moduli Spaces of Strongly Homotopy Associative Algebras

Motivated by ideas from stable homotopy theory we study the space of strongly homotopy associative multiplications on a two-cell chain complex. In the simplest case this moduli space is isomorphic to the set of orbits of a group of invertible power series acting on a certain space. The Hochschild cohomology rings of resulting A∞-algebras have an interpretation as totally ramified extensions of ...

Cosimplicial versus Dg-rings: a Version of the Dold-kan Correspondence

The (dual) Dold-Kan correspondence says that there is an equivalence of categories K : Ch → Ab between nonnegatively graded cochain complexes and cosimplicial abelian groups, which is inverse to the normalization functor. We show that the restriction of K to DG-rings can be equipped with an associative product and that the resulting functor DGR → Rings, although not itself an equivalence, does ...

Deformation Theory of Representations of Prop(erad)s I

In this paper and its follow-up [MV08], we study the deformation theory of morphisms of properads and props thereby extending Quillen’s deformation theory for commutative rings to a non-linear framework. The associated chain complex is endowed with an L∞-algebra structure. Its Maurer-Cartan elements correspond to deformed structures, which allows us to give a geometric interpretation of these r...

Homotopes and Conformal Deformations of Symmetric spaces

Homotopy is an important feature of associative and Jordan algebraic structures: such structures always come in families whose members need not be isomorphic among other, but still share many important properties. One may regard homotopy as a special kind of deformation of a given algebraic structure. In this work, we investigate the global counterpart of this phenomenon on the geometric level ...

Morita Theory in Stable Homotopy Theory

We discuss an analogue of Morita theory for ring spectra, a thickening of the category of rings inspired by stable homotopy theory. This follows work by Rickard and Keller on Morita theory for derived categories. We also discuss two results for derived equivalences of DGAs which show they differ from derived equivalences of rings.
